It’s time for summer and men want to get out in the sun just as much as women do this time of year. And after spending a long day outdoors, we will want to head out on the town for some dinner, a movie and maybe even some dancing. So whether you choose your time to go to the beach, your favorite restaurant, a popular bar or even a crowded movie theater, there are certain fashion mistakes that we as men should not make the summer.
1. Wraparound Shades
Okay, we know you need to shade your eyes from the powerful sun but that doesn’t mean you have to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger from the Terminator movies. There may be times when you have to wear them such as when you’re playing a grueling round of tennis but for the most part you should leave them sitting on top of your dresser. Summer is the time to look cool and wraparound shades won’t do the trick. Do yourself a favor and find the right pair of sunglasses even if you have to try on 100 pair.
2. Tank Tops
Attention to all guys who love tank tops. Please lean in and listen closely. Tank tops are meant to be worn as an undershirt and that’s it. No if’s, and’s or but’s. If you’re some sort of Olympic weightlifter I guess we can give you a pass and you can go ahead and wear one on the beach. But for the most of us, instead of wearing tank tops, how about wearing a polo shirt or a V-neck T-shirt instead.
Summer seems to be the biggest time of year when everyone is wearing flip-flops no matter where they are. But for us cool guys who don’t want to make a fashion mistake, flip-flops should only worn at home and during the occasional barbecue or trip to the beach. But don’t wear them out on the town. Instead, how about investing a little money and a quality pair of leather crisscross sandals.
4. Strong Cologne
We know you love your expensive bottle of strong cologne but the best time to wear it is during the winter. In the summer it’s best for guys to wear cologne that’s a bit more light and lean. Need a hint? How about looking for a good bottle of cologne which has a bit of citrus.
5. Socks and Shoes
This should be a no-brainer especially if you love wearing sandals. But for those of you who need us to explain it to you here we go. Imagine being out in the hot sun all afternoon wearing a pair of socks and then returning home and taking off your shoes. Now imagine how those ripe wet socks are stuck to your feet requiring you to remove them with a tire iron. The bottom line is, it’s too damn hot to wear socks during the summer.
